Discover

Groups of 6-8 people meet weekly to explore and discover what this 'spirituality' thing is all about. They learn about themselves, from each other, and how God might be working in their lives. With the help of experienced guides, the programme follows the highpoints of the Slí Eile Calendar year that includes retreats, workshops on theology and personal development, and an experience of working with marginalised groups. Those involved in Discover can participate for one, two or three years.

Volunteering Opportunities - part time

Projects in North Inner City Dublin range from youth clubs, to after-schools projects, tutoring second and third level students, playing football in Arbour Hill Prison, and working with children at risk. These projects require an hour or two per week with extended possibilities in the summer time.

Zamcraft

Through Slí Eile Zamcraft, the selling in Ireland of crafts made my local artists in Zambia, volunteers make a small but significant contribution to fair trade. All Volunteers get a chance to reflect on their experience of working with people who are disadvantaged, learn more about the intimate connection between justice and faith, and get an insight into the reasons for some of the inequalities in Irish society today.

Political Action

The concern for Justice rightly expresses itself in more overtly political actions at times. Slí Eile has been actively involved in the Anti-War in Iraq demonstration and the Make Poverty History Campaign. Slí Eile will continue to campaign for justice and align itself with other Jesuit, Catholic and Christian organisations working for peace and justice in our world.

Leadership Training

In conjunction with the Milltown Institute for Philosophy and Theology Slí Eile provides an accredited Certificate in Social Spirituality for those young adults who wish to learn the basic skills and knowledge required to take up intentional leadership in the wider Christian community.

JVC

From September to May inclusive, JVC (Jesuit Volunteer Communities) offers between five and six young adults the opportunity to work for justice in a marginalized Irish situation. In this context they choose to live together, to live simply and in solidarity with the people around them, and to explore their faith.

Magis means 'more' or 'better' and is the Jesuit-run lead up experience to the World Youth Day in Australia 2008. It involves pilgrimages, working with marginalised groups in Australia and South East Asia and good fun!
